The Next Three Weeks is Crucial for the Royals' Future
The MLB Draft and trade deadline are big opportunities to set the team up for 2026 and beyond.
Another week has passed in what is turning into a fairly listless campaign for the Kansas City Royals. The Royals throw out a few flashes here and there—like the 9-3 drubbing of the Diamondbacks on Friday night—but every time fans feel like they could get sucked in again, the Royals give them good reason not to.
There are only so many ways to write the Royals offense is very inconsistent, but everyone knows why this season hasn’t lived up to expectations … and it’s not the pitching. Core pieces appear to be in place for the Royals with Bobby Witt Jr., Vinnie Pasquantino, and Jac Caglianone all under control for multiple years, but the Royals need something around them.
That’s why with the draft in a week and the trade deadline approaching, J.J. Piccolo needs to have a great few weeks here. The goal will be to put talent in place to set the Royals up for the next 2-3 years.
