The Absence of Action is Excruciating
The Royals' holding pattern continues while fans get anxious.
The calendar is about to turn to a new year, and the Royals remain stuck in the same place they were over a month ago when they traded Brady Singer for Jonathan India. Yes, that trade improved the lineup, but I don’t know anyone who thinks that will be enough to significantly improve the sluggish and inconsistent offense of 2024.
A few more free agents bats have come off the board in that time. Willy Adames, Teoscar Hernandez, and Tyler O’Neil have all signed with teams (though Hernandez’s deal is yet to be made official). Gleyber Torres signed with the Detroit Tigers for one year and $15M. A few decent options remain. Anthony Santander is still out there, as is Jurickson Profar. But with the inflated prices of players in free agency, the Royals may be a little hesitant to overpay for players who come with their own set of red flags.
