Royals are Playoff Bound!

The Royals capped one of the greatest turnarounds in MLB history.

Maybe it would have been sweeter with a victory sending the Royals to the playoffs for the first time since 2015. The boys in blue took a loss to the Braves and then waited a few hours to watch the Orioles deliver them a playoff spot by beating the Twins. Maybe a dramatic victory would have felt a little more cinematic as the climax of what has often felt like a fairy tale season.

But I’m sure the champagne tasted plenty sweet either way.

The Royals came into the week with shrinking playoff odds and a lot of fans chewing nails to the wick, but the Nationals series felt like an opportunity to lock in a spot they seemed destined for a couple of weeks ago. Good teams beat the bad teams. Good teams rise to the occasion. And the Royals did both, sweeping the lowly Nationals to all but assure games in October.

Games in October … for the team that lost 106 games last year. Frankly, we all deserved this.
